Bruno began his racing career in 1998 with impressive finishes in the Skip Barber Championship Series and the Star Formula Mazda Pro Series championship. He then joined Team Seattle, a group of drivers committed to raising money for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. The team placed second in the GT class at Daytona and seventh overall, while raising over $250,000 for the Seattle hospital. In 1999, Bruno posted two GT class podium finishes, including a third place at the 12 Hours of Sebring, in the American Le Mans Series (ALM). With Alex Job Racing, in the 2000, Bruno had four podium finishes. He also went on to win the GT class for the Taisan team at the very prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. With the support of his sponsor, Cranium, driving a Saleen S7R in the 2001 European Le Mans Series, Bruno captured two GTS class victories at Donington and Most, plus an overall win at Estoril. Bruno then joined the Dick Barbour Racing team and piloted a Reynard 01Q in the new LMP-675 class of the ALMS for consecutive victories at Mosport and Mid-Ohio. Bruno finished the 2001 ALMS season with a third place class finish at the Petit Le Mans, helping the Dick Barbour Racing team capture the ALMS championship.
