DICK BARBOUR RACING WINS 2000 AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES GT CHAMPIONSHIP

Road Atlanta, GA October 23, 2000 – The Dick Barbour Racing Team has won the 2000 American Le Mans Series GT Championship. Professional SportsCar confirmed that, with still two events remaining in the twelve-race season, the Dick Barbour Racing squad has earned enough points to secure the championship title.

In the ten events held so far, the Team has earned seven first place victories, had the fastest lap of the race in eight of the races, the pole position in seven of the events and has set the GT Qualifying Record at seven of the tracks as well.

In addition to the seven first place victories, the Team has scored two second place finishes, three third place finishes and sixteen top ten finishes so far this season.

The number 51 Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Sascha Maassen and Bob Wollek, delivered four of the Team's seven wins and the number 5 Porsche 911 GT3 R, piloted by teammates Dirk Muller and Lucas Luhr, has earned the other three.

Although the Team has already secured the championship title, they will continue to field their two entries for the remaining two races of the 2000 season – The Grand Prix of Las Vegas on October 29 and The Race of a Thousand Years in Australia on December 31.

"I would like to thank Porsche for building such an incredible racecar based on the production 911 - one of the all time stars of automobile engineering! As a racer, I am proud that my team rode to victory on Michelin tires - tires with the highest standard of excellence," said Barbour. I'd also very much like to thank my drivers and team for un-paralleled dedication throughout the season!"
