DICK BARBOUR RACING SCORES POLE AT SEARS POINT
Sears Point, CA July 22, 2000 Dick Barbour Racing grabbed the pole today for the Grand Prix of Sonoma this Sunday July 23rd at Sears Point.
This is the 5th straight pole for the team in the five ALMS races to date and the fifth pole of the season for Dirk Muller. The number 5 Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Muller, grabbed the pole with a time of 1:35.707. This also represents the second straight year that Muller has scored the pole here at Sears Point - and the second straight year that Muller has broken the track record in qualifying.
The team's second entry, the number 51 Porsche 911 GT3 R, qualified by Sascha Maassen will start 4th in class with a time of 1:35.949.
Muller currently leads the series in Driver Points and the team itself is first in Team Points. Lucas Luhr is sharing the driving duties in Sunday's race with Muller in the number 5 car and veteran Bob Wollek will join Maassen in the number 51 car.
The team has been very fortunate to have won the four series races to date - the 12 Hours of Sebring, The Grand Prix of Charlotte, The Silverstone USA Challenge in England and the 1000 K's of Nuburgring in Germany - and is very hopeful to add to that streak by winning here this weekend at the Grand Prix of Sonoma.
