DICK BARBOUR RACING 1ST AND 2ND AT SEARS POINT
Road Atlanta, GA July 26, 2000 Dick Barbour Racing earned its first one-two finish at last weekend's Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sears Point. Professional Sports Car announced today that the team's two entries placed first and second in the American Le Mans Series fifth event of the season
The first place victory was secured by the number 5 Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Dirk Muller and Lucas Luhr. Second place was awarded to the number 51 Porsche 911 GT3R, piloted by Bob Wollek and Sascha Maassen.
The number 5 car, with Muller behind the wheel, secured the pole position for the Sunday race. This marks the sixth pole of the season for the team and the fifth pole of the season for Muller. Muller also drove the fastest lap of the race and set a new track record. With this win Muller continues to lead the series in Driver Points and the team is the solid leader in Team Points.
The race was considered by many to be the most competitive race of the season for the GT class. The Dick Barbour Racing number 5 car led for almost the entire race - 77 of 99 laps - when it was overtaken by the number 7 PTG BMW. The BMW was subsequently disqualified from the race.
The team has been very fortunate to have won all five of the American Le Mans Series races to date the 12 Hours of Sebring, The Grand Prix of Charlotte, The Silverstone USA Challenge in England, the 1000 K's of Nurburgring in Germany and now the Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sears Point.
The team's next race, and the series' sixth event, will be the Grand Prix at Mosport in Canada on August 6.
